Kwesi Pratt Jnr has cautioned against a third-term bid for President Mahama
The Managing Editor of Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has warned that any attempt to push a third-term agenda for President John Dramani Mahama would not bode well for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Pratt stated that such a move would give the opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a political advantage and significantly boost its chances of returning to power.
"I've told some of my friends that today the NPP appears to be in protest, but it will revive itself very quickly and enhance its chances of coming back to power. If this three-term bid is pushed, it will be a bonanza for the NPP," he remarked.
He noted, however, that President Mahama and the NDC have made their position clear regarding a third-term bid.

"Fortunately, the president himself has said that he's not interested; he just wants to finish his second term and walk away. Fortunately, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress has come to tell us that they are not interested and that they would not support a third-term bid," Pratt said.
The veteran journalist urged those still advocating for a third-term agenda to “think twice,” warning that such a move could have serious political consequences.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s two-term presidential limit.

During a recent bilateral meeting with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on a three-day state visit, President Mahama criticised the practice of incumbent governments circumventing fiscal safeguards to curry favor with voters.
He pledged to uphold fiscal responsibility ahead of the 2028 elections, stressing, “I will not be a candidate in the next elections, and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline."
