A Founding member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has slammed the president, Nana Akufo-Addo for always blaming others over his failure to fight galamsey.
During one of his campaign tours in the North, Akufo-Addo disclosed that his government has been fighting the galamsey menace since 2020 and made huge political sacrifices.
He referred to how the NPP lost their seats in most mining communities because John Mahama had visited these mining sites to promise amnesty to illegal miners who had been arrested due to galamsey.
Reacting to his comments, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe asserted that the president has failed in the fight against galamsey while berating him for always shifting blame over his failure.
“I’m not surprised at his comment. This is typical of Akufo-Addo. Akufo-Addo does no wrong and what he only knows is to shift blame instead of doing the needful. When you listen to him, he’s trying to exalt himself instead of trying to solve the problem.” He lashed out.
According to Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, the fight against galamsey is not a political fight but rather it is an operation that needs to be handled by the military.
He emphasized that these operations need a whole battalion’s hands to fight it successfully. Dr Tamakloe stated that the military should be given targets and premier objectives.
According to him, if these steps are taken, there will be a change within a week. “There have been instances where the military have been to these sites for days and they left, now see what has happened? It was just a waste of money and time.”
Dr Tamakloe reiterated that the issue faced by the country is a national problem and not a partisan problem, hence it should be treated with all forms of seriousness while adding that it is important for the president to declare a state of emergency on all mining sites, surface mining, waterbodies and forest reserves.
