Barring any last minute changes, the Flagbearers of the country’s two largest political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold the maiden public debate at the Radach Memorial Centre on November 8, 2016.

The event which is spearheaded by Think Tank the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), paves the way for the leaders of the two parties to unveil their policies and programmes for the electorate ahead of December 7 polls barely 30 days away.

The debate of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and John Dramani Mahama will be closely followed by one for Vice-Presidential candidates slated for November 15, 2016 at the Best Western Hotel in Takoradi to be preceded by the second and final Presidential debate in Accra on November 22, 2016.

According to IEA’s Executive Director, Jean Mensah, the presidential candidate of the governing NDC, President John Mahama will battle presidential candidates of the NPP; Nana Akufo-Addo, Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) Ivor Greenstreet; Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Papa Kwesi Nduom, and the Independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah and they are yet to confirm their participation.

President John Dramani Mahama recently requested to debate NPP’s Akufo-Addo over what he described as false and fabricated figures given to Ghanaians by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NPP`s flagbearer.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in June 2016 directed all of its candidates, both presidential and parliamentary, not to participate in any debate organized by the IEA ahead of the November polls.
