The Ghana Police Service has restored police guards to three presidential aspirants whose security were withdrawn following their disqualification from the 7 December general elections.

The three include former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), and Dr Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention (PNC).

They were among 13 presidential nominees whose state security guards were withdrawn in October after they got dropped from the race.

They were, however, reinstated in the race after the Supreme Court ruled last week that the Electoral Commission needed to have given them ample time to correct certain anomalies on their nomination forms for which they got disqualified.

Their restoration brings to seven the number of presidential candidates for this year’s elections. The first four candidates who qualified include President John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Akufo-Addo of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah.
