The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, has called for members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain loyal and unite behind the government to deliver on its mandate.
She said it would require their strong commitment and support to transform the economy and make life better for everybody.
“We need to rise up in togetherness and work for the good of the country.”
Mrs. Bawumia, the Second Lady, was performing the ceremony to mark the start of construction works on the Ashanti Regional Party office building, in Kumasi.
The project is the brainchild of the Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Bosiako.
It would on completion, be named after the late Baffour Osei Akoto, the founder of the National Liberation Movement – a political movement, that metamorphosed into the United Party (UP), from which the NPP traces its roots.
Mrs. Bawumia counselled them against doing anything that would cause needless distractions and public disaffection for the government.
She added that the party was in power to serve all Ghanaians and not only its members.
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako asked the leaders of the party to emulate the patriotism selflessness and good character of its founding fathers.
The Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Fremah Osei Opare, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, Mr. Freddie Blay, acting NPP National Chairman, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, former Defence Minister, and Mr. Dan Botwe, Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development MMDAs, were among big party wigs present.
