'Some women buying kenkey for GH¢10, bottled water for GH¢36' – NPP's Miracles claims

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, has stated that many Ghanaians are struggling with rising prices of essential goods, despite claims by the NDC government that the US dollar has fallen.

Speaking during a conference, he criticised the government for dismissing complaints from various sectors by pointing to the falling dollar.

“When the trotro drivers and taxi drivers complain, the NDC government says the dollar has come down. When market women complain, the government says the dollar has come down. And when unemployed teachers and nurses ask for what is due them, they are told to keep quiet because the dollar has come down,” he stated.

Aboagye explained that the reality on the ground is different. “If I am a cold store owner and my import costs fall because the dollar is down, but I am paying 28% more for electricity and higher water bills, how will I reduce prices of meat or other products?” he asked.

He cited examples of soaring commodity prices across the country:

“And other places in Koforidua, the women are telling me that they are buying kenkey for GH¢10.

“A pack of bottled water that was selling for 28 cedis, it's selling for GH¢36, “he said.

According to him a cement of 42.5 R, gasoline and roofing sheets have more than doubled in price.
