The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has advised former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, not to rely on major missteps by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

In a post shared on his X page on Monday, February 2, 2026, he described such a strategy as unwise, warning that waiting for the NDC's failures amounts to “baseless optimism.”

He further cautioned against the use of lies, insults, and propaganda—often employed by inexperienced party communicators, which he noted have become ineffective, as today’s voters are sophisticated and able to detect misinformation.

“Lies, insults and propaganda as freely dished out by inexperienced communicators of your party are not options either. The current voter is sophisticated to detect them,” he wrote.

According to Franklin Cudjoe, the only viable approach for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer is truth-based communication grounded in facts and careful analysis.

“So, you have only the truth to be told, based on actual happenings cleverly analysed and presented to the relatively happier voter to make them believe that you, as the alternative, are no longer scarier but completely remorseful and committed to Ghana’s progress,” he noted.

He acknowledged that while the journey to electoral victory may be long and challenging, it remains achievable through honesty and strategic engagement.

“It is a long road, but you can do it. Good luck,” he added.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Dr Bawumia as its flagbearer for the 2028 presidential elections.

This marks the second time he will lead the party into a general election, following the NPP’s unsuccessful bid in the 2024 polls.

Dr Bawumia secured a decisive victory at the party’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, polling 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast.
