The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has described former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a well-meaning leader who, in his view, had limited influence in key government decisions under the previous New Patriotic Party administration.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, April 9, he said, “To be fair to you, he was a very, he was a good man. He’s still a good man, but he had no power.”

He added, “He had no locus,” arguing that the vice president’s authority did not always translate into control over major policy decisions.

Cudjoe further questioned the practical role of the vice president in governance, saying, “There were two or three transactions that we were privy to. That actually made me ask myself, what exactly do the vice president, does the vice president of a country actually do? Does he have power?”

Touching on port operations, he noted that although Bawumia later intervened to address challenges, the impact was short-lived.

“For three months, all the crazy stuff that goes on at the ports actually got reduced… but when a champion recedes… things started unraveling,” he said.

Cudjoe, however, maintained that Bawumia’s intentions were positive, stating, “He was a truly… he meant well.”
