In fact, you are quoting Abraham Lincoln's situation out of context. Yes, of course, Lincoln attended school only intermittently, for a total of about one year. These were basic "blab schools" on the American frontier, where he learned reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Most of his learning came from teaching himself. He borrowed and read any books he could find, including:
The Bible
Aesop's Fables
Robinson Crusoe
The Life of George Washington
He had strong reading and writing habits.
He often read by firelight after long days of manual labour. This habit sharpened his language, reasoning, and storytelling skills, which later made him a powerful speaker.

Lincoln did not attend law school. Instead, he studied law independently and passed the bar exam, becoming a lawyer. His legal career helped shape his logical thinking and persuasive abilities.
