'Leadership is not about certificates' - Wontumi cites Trump, Lincoln

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has stated that leadership is not solely determined by academic qualification.

According to him, the ability to lead depends on many factors beyond formal education.

“Leadership in politics is broader than academic qualification alone. Across the world, we have seen this truth,” he said.

Speaking to some party faithful in a viral video shared on social media on April 16, 2026, the popular Ashanti Regional Chairman, who is now aspiring to become the National Chairman of the party, listed several personalities who became great leaders despite not excelling academically.

“Leaders like Abraham Lincoln had limited formal education, yet shaped nations through vision and resilience. Winston Churchill was not defined by academic brilliance yet led Britain through its darkest hour. Donald Trump, despite not being a career academic or politician, mobilized and led one of the most powerful political movements in modern America.

“Many successful global political leaders have risen not just from the classroom, but through practical experience, organization, and connection to the people. What these examples show is simple: leadership is not only about learning in the classroom,” he added.
