'I have never taken a bribe in my life' - Lawyer Ampaw

Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw says his refusal to cultivate close relationships with politicians has made it difficult for anyone to influence him through gifts or inducements.

Speaking on GhanaWeb’s Lowdown show, Ampaw insisted that he has never accepted a bribe in his career.

“It is very difficult for me to take a bribe from anybody. I have never taken a bribe in my life,” he declared.

He explained that he intentionally avoids private meetings with presidents, ministers, and other powerful figures because such interactions could compromise his independence.

According to Ampaw, maintaining a distance from politicians has enabled him to publicly criticise governments from both sides of the political divide without fear or obligation.

The lawyer added that public commentators and religious leaders who become too close to politicians often lose the ability to speak freely on matters of national interest.
