The appointment is expected to strengthen Bawumia’s organizational structure
The former Executive Director Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has described the appointment of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Chief of Staff to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's 2028 campaign as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the campaign's leadership with political depth.
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on June 19, 2026, Dr Kokofu said the veteran lawmaker brings a vast experience in governance, legislation and grassroots politics.
"He's an experienced hand. You're talking about governance. You're talking about legislation. You're talking about social issues. He had been an MP for more than 24 years. So, he's a grassroots person to start with.
"And his stature is one of the pillars in Ghana's Parliament, parliamentary democracy. So, you cannot take it away from him. His demeanour and as somebody working with him closely, you appreciate his in-depth knowledge in all issues, national party, internal party issues, international issues. So, he's cut for the job", he added.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu leads Bawumia's restructured office as Chief of Staff
Dr Kokofu noted that the appointment is consistent with the party’s tradition of relying on experienced hands for key political roles, arguing that such decisions help to strengthen internal organisation and stability.
He also stressed that the flagbearer remains focused and in control of the campaign process, adding that the ongoing political structuring is not a one-off event but a gradual and continuous process.
Dr Bawumia has announced a major restructuring of his office with the appointment of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as his Chief of Staff.
In his new role, the former Suame Member of Parliament will oversee the operational activities of Dr Bawumia's office, coordinating its day-to-day administration and strategic functions.
