A close confidant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged him not to be discouraged but to remain resilient and focused ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, who is also a former National Youth Organiser and former National Organiser of the NPP, said party supporters are looking up to Dr Bawumia to lead the party back to power.

Awuku openly expressed his support for Dr Bawumia following recent comments by some party members in the aftermath of the NPP presidential primaries.

In a social media post, the lawmaker encouraged Dr Bawumia to remain focused and resilient in his pursuit of becoming Ghana's next president.

Awuku acknowledged the challenges associated with political leadership and urged him to stay committed to the party's cause.

His post read in part:

"To my dear flagbearer, friend, and senior brother @mbawumia,

Some journeys are never smooth, and some roads are written in dust and rain. Yet history remembers those who kept walking when the ground was uncertain.

The same spirit that carried J.A. Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo through seasons of trial is not absent from this path.

You are no stranger to pressure. Your resolve has always spoken quietly but firmly.

And as the path unfolds, know that some remain in the margins of every storm, steady and unshaken, walking with you without noise but with conviction.

"Stay the course. Hold the line. Keep faith with the cause."

He also assured Dr Bawumia of the continued support of loyal party members who remain firmly behind him.

The Akuapem North MP further encouraged him to remain hopeful about the future.

"Better days lie ahead. Stay focused. Stay resilient. Keep faith with the cause," he added.

Awuku is regarded as one of Dr Bawumia's close allies and played a key role in his political campaign activities within the NPP.
