A group calling itself the Patriotic Defenders of NPP Worldwide has petitioned the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to expel former Assin Central MP and former flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, over what it describes as persistent anti-party conduct.

In a petition dated June 21, 2026 and addressed to the party's General Secretary at the NPP headquarters in Accra, the group accused Agyapong of making remarks that undermine the party, its leadership and the achievements of previous NPP administrations.

According to the petition, the former legislator's recent public comments and threats to disclose sensitive information about the party if provoked constitute a breach of Article 3 of the NPP Constitution, which requires members to remain truthful, loyal and committed to protecting the party's image.

The group expressed disappointment that a senior party member who has benefited significantly from the NPP would engage in what it described as conduct aimed at humiliating and weakening the party.

"We therefore call on the leadership of the party to expel him outrightly as it is obvious he is on a mission to undermine and destroy," portions of the petition stated.

The petitioners argued that the NPP has historically survived the departure, suspension or defection of influential members and cited examples including former party stalwarts and political figures whose exits did not derail the fortunes of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

They maintained that the party's electoral prospects in future elections depend on preserving unity and defending the legacy of previous NPP governments, insisting that Agyapong's recent comments run contrary to those objectives.

The group further urged the party's leadership to begin expulsion proceedings immediately, arguing that decisive action is necessary to protect party cohesion and strengthen its chances ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The petition comes amid heightened discussions within the NPP following comments made by Agyapong in recent media appearances, which have generated debate among party supporters and political observers.
