President Mahama doing the unveiling
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has named its national headquarters after its founder and the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
The leaders of the party on Monday June 22, 2026, said the move is meant to preserve his legacy and honour his contribution to Ghana’s democracy.
The unveiling ceremony held in Accra was attended by party executives, government officials, and supporters, who gathered to pay tribute to the late former President.
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Fifi Fiave Kwetey, addressing the gathering, hailed Rawlings as a visionary whose sacrifices and leadership laid the foundation for the party’s success.
“The NDC would not have come this far without the leadership and legacy of Jerry John Rawlings,” he stated.
The Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga who was also at the event urged members to embrace unity, stressing that collective effort was essential to strengthening the party and advancing its objectives.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party's National Chairman also reportedly explained that while Rawlings resisted attempts to have institutions named after him during his lifetime of the party, after consultations and reviewing practices in other countries, concluded that dedicating the headquarters to him as “Jerry John Rawlings House” was a fitting tribute.
President John Dramani Mahama unveiled the plaque bearing Rawlings’ name, marking the official dedication.
The event closed with tributes to Rawlings’ enduring role in shaping the NDC and Ghana’s democratic journey.
