Professor Richard Asiedu is the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Asiedu, has declared that he is not done dealing with Obaatanpa FM, accusing the radio station of deliberately orchestrating a campaign to tarnish the image of the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the governing NDC and the party's regional leadership.
Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, Professor Asiedu alleged that the Cape Coast-based media station is owned by the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, who lost the parliamentary election to Naa Koryoo.
According to him, the station's reportage is motivated by political bitterness following the election defeat.
He further claimed that some members of the NDC who harbour resentment towards the Awutu Senya East MP have aligned themselves with the station and are allegedly providing false information aimed at discrediting her.
Professor Asiedu maintained that the station's coverage forms part of a calculated attempt to damage the reputation of the MP, the NDC and the party's Central Regional leadership.
The Regional Chairman also issued a stern warning to the radio station, stating that he would not hesitate to respond if Obaatanpa FM continued to mention the MP in what he described as a negative or misleading manner.
MCE allegedly storms Obaatanpa Radio during NDC internal feud discussion
“What has happened? I'm not even done with Obaatanpa FM yet because this is a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of our MP, our party, and the Regional Chairman. The radio station belongs to Hawa Koomson, and Naa Koryoo unseated her. Because of that hatred, some NDC members who dislike Naa Koryoo have joined forces with them, and that is what they are doing.
“If they mention Naa Koryoo's name in a negative way again, we will send the boys there because credibility matters in life,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of an incident that reportedly occurred on June 25, 2026, when the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, allegedly stormed the premises of Obaatanpa Radio with a group of individuals witnesses described as "thugs."
The alleged confrontation reportedly took place while the station was discussing ongoing internal tensions within the NDC in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.
The tensions are said to stem from an alleged rift between the constituency's Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, and the NDC Constituency Chairman, Stephen Otosu Agyare.
During the programme, an NDC executive in the constituency reportedly claimed that the disagreement between the two party officials was rooted in a failed marriage proposal.
According to the executive, the constituency chairman proposed to make the MP his second wife, but she declined after allegedly reneging on an earlier agreement between them.
The spokesperson further alleged that Stephen Otosu Agyare claimed Naa Koryoo had promised to marry him if he helped secure her victory as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2020 election, but failed to fulfil that promise after obtaining the nomination.
The allegations, which remain unverified, generated widespread discussion and controversy.
Following the broadcast, reports indicated that the Municipal Chief Executive and the individuals who accompanied him allegedly forced their way onto the premises of Obaatanpa FM and temporarily shut down the station over claims that it was peddling falsehoods against the Member of Parliament and the NDC.
