The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has blamed the Mahama government for the June 29, 2026 flooding that affected parts of Accra and other communities, calling for stronger action on flood control.

In a statement released on Monday, the party said, “The New Patriotic Party joins in commiserations with the thousands of Ghanaians affected by the floods of June 29, 2026.”

It added, “We urge the NDC government under President Mahama to stop paying lip service to the urgent flood control needs of the country and act with a sense of seriousness to deal with the situation.”

The NPP said areas including the N1 Highway, Apenkwa, Achimota, Kaneshie, Weija, Spintex, Darkuman Junction, and the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange were affected by flooding.

It stated that the current structure for managing flood control under the Mahama administration appears fragmented, with responsibilities shared across different ministries.

The party also questioned the implementation of anti-flood interventions and funding for drainage projects.

It further referenced President Mahama’s comments that flooding is partly influenced by human behaviour and environmental practices.

The NPP said the government must take more coordinated steps to address recurring flooding in affected areas.
