Imagine I live in Accra and decides to engage in cashew export. I can only get the cashew nuts from the middle belt of the country where I do not live. So I contact a friend who lives at Kintampo to buy the cashew for me. The guy visits the farmers only to find that each farmer has people who buy from him
So my friend calls to say instead of paying the market price of 25Gh per kilo, he wants to induce the farmers to forgo their customers to sell to him by offering 27Gh per kilo. So he manages to get me 2000kg at 27Gh/kg.
The cashew is transported to me for unward sale. The price fluctuates so I could sell for 50Gh/kg if lucky or at 10Gh/kg if that's the price at the time I sell.
If on the day I sold my cashew the price was 23Gh, I would have lost 4Gh/kg and thus 8,000Gh in all. However, that might not truly be a loss. I am now a commodity dealer so my worth is in the commodity. After selling my cashew for 23Gh, I could wait and buy another 2000kg consignment when prices are at 21Gh. I would have had my 2000kg intact for sale and saved 4,000Gh. Per chance by my next selling window prices are at 35Gh, I would have made 14Gh/kilo. That is how business works.
My NPP brothers have robbed us just as their party did. When our currency regained its glory against the dollar, prices were supposed to fall in Ghana. Our clueless and wickedness traders insisted they exchanged the cedi at higher rates at the time they imported so they can't reduce prices till they finish selling. For over 20 months now, their wares have not finished. They were supposed to reduce prices immediately the cedi appreciated just as fuel prices do because they were going to change again and would have made back their capital (in dollars with fewer cedis) at the lower prices of their wares. "A just scale" the bible calls it. No wonder Christ said it will be more difficult for the rich to pass through the eye of a needle than a camel to pass through same
