You're the backbone of party structures – Afoko rallies NPP women

Awentami Paul Afoko, an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Chairmanship, has called for women to be placed at the centre of the party’s administrative structures as part of efforts to revitalise the party.

Speaking to party delegates as he campaigns for the chairmanship position, Afoko described women as the backbone of homes, communities and political organisations, highlighting their roles as organisers, communicators, business leaders, professionals, farmers, traders, caregivers and strategists.

“To the women of our party and of Ghana, I say this: no serious renewal of the NPP can take place without women at the centre. If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation,” he stated.

Afoko said that, if elected National Chairman, he would move women from what he described as an “appendix of party activity” to a central pillar of the NPP’s organisation and policy-making.

He said his administration would prioritise women’s participation in party organisation, policy engagement, fundraising, communication, mobilisation and leadership development, arguing that the party must fully utilise the skills and energy of its female membership.

“The NPP cannot recapture power without women. Ghana cannot prosper without women. Women’s inclusion is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity for electoral success and national development,” Afoko reiterated.

He further stressed that meaningful participation by women in decision-making and policy formulation would be crucial to rebuilding public trust and expanding the party’s reach, particularly in communities where women play significant economic and social roles.

His comments come as the NPP prepares to renew its leadership and reassess its strategies ahead of future elections, with inclusivity and organisational reform emerging as key issues in the party’s efforts to broaden its appeal.
