Alan Kyerematen makes fresh claim about some NPP members after his exit

Alan Kyerematen, leader and founder of the United Party (UP+), has revisited his decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that his departure influenced some party members not to vote in the 2024 general election.

According to him, some NPP members who continue to monitor his political activities have also shown interest in joining his party.

“Although I have left the NPP, they are monitoring my activities. This means that the relevance is there. A number of NPP members who still mention my name and can’t seem to forget me is because they are ready to join me,” he said in an interview on Adom FM monitored by GhanaWeb on September 16, 2026.

Kyerematen also questioned why a significant number of people who identified as NPP sympathisers did not vote in the 2024 election.

“How is it possible that 2.1 million sympathisers of the party did not vote during the 2024 elections?” he asked.

He said some NPP members had openly stated that his departure from the party was one of the reasons they chose not to vote.

“...Some NPP members have disclosed they did not vote in the 2024 election because I left the party,” he said.

Kyerematen withdrew from the NPP’s presidential primary race in September 2023 before formally resigning from the party on September 25, 2023. He subsequently contested the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate under the Movement for Change.

At the time, he cited concerns about the conduct of the NPP’s internal electoral process, including what he described as intimidation and favouritism.
