Then again, that cathedral project was a PERSONAL PROMISE that Akufo Addo made, swearing that he would build a cathedral to glorify God for helping him become President of Ghana.

The question is: why should the state use tax payers money to build that project, when the state needs tax payers money to complete a whole lot of projects?

All those who love Ghana should be worried why $97 million of Ghana's taxpayer's money was spent in building the cathedral and yet only a hole is there to show for it. As if that is not bad enough, before that expensive hole was dug, several residences of judges and several offices of companies were razed down.
If we recall that, it took just $10 million, which is not even money from the taxpayer but donors, to build Ghana's national mosque that is there for all to see at Kanda, then there is no doubt that Akufo Addo's cathedral project is only meant to drain the national coffers to put state money into the pockets of greedy individuals.
Afenyo Markin knows this truth well but his bet is that, when you turn even the most stupid issue into politics, some people will lose their thinking ability and accept it. What a shame.

To understand me, consider the following:

1) How big is the inner-Ghana tourism ?
Negligibly small.

2) Which foreign tourist would fly to Ghana to see this crap of a 'cathedral'? Nobody because it's not worth it.

They would rather saw ancient Gothic-style cathedrals that were built in the 11th and 12th century, like the Cologne Cathedral (that took nearly 800 years to complete), St Paul's in London, St Peter's in Rome, the Archbasilica of St John, the Santa Maria del Fiore, the Santa Maria Assunta, the Cahtedral of Sevilla and many many more.

These are the cathedrals that people travel miles from all corners of the world to see, because they have some HISTORY and magnificence and therefore truly worth spending time and money to see.

Of course, if govt want to convert the place to some USEFUL project, like a campus of UG Medical School, a campus of GIMPA, an Advanced National Library all the better.

Afenyo did not mention which mosque (they have several very old mosques) but I can guarantee you that the place is VERY OLD - perhaps at least 500 years old and that's what attracts the visitors not just because they are mosques. The visitors look for objects (mosques, cathedrals, monuments etc) with history, magnificence and magic.

For example the Hagia Sophia was built in the year 537 and the Eski Imaret Mosque was built in the year 1087, the Menucihr Mosque was built between 1072 and 1086 ....

I once saw the Hagia Sophia on TV and went WOW !! Now wonder that people from all over the world (apart from Africa) would throng to the place to see it. How could they build this more than 1000 years ago, with computer aided designs, no water-level, no machinery, not even wheelbarrows, but PURE man power?

This project was not a National policy but an individual Fortunately, the ex-president is alive and kicking. He has to be dragged out of retirement and to start a fundraising campaign internally and externally to solicit funds for the completion of the Cathedral. Nana Addo is still popular in and out of the country, and could access the necessary funds required for the project.
It is his brain child and thefore, nurture it to fruition. He now has the undivided attention to concentrate and supervise completion of HIS NATIONAL CATHEDRAL.
