The PNDC era was a military rulership (dictatorship) and therefore the Soldiers had no choice but to obey the Military Ruler and go to Afram Plains. What Bro Yandoh was trying to say was that in a Civilian Administration, Soldiers are supposed to first and foremost see to their “Core Mandate” - being the protection of the Civilian population and focus all their attention on the Defense of the State. Bro Yandoh is saying that the Soldiers are being distracted from their Core Mandate and being “deployed” to do the work of “civilian” Road Contractors! I do not see any ignorance in Mr Yandoh’s comments. Besides, I do not recall if there was any competitive bidding to all (both civilian contractors) and the military for the military to be “forcefully” awarded the Kumasi Road project. Furthermore Wofa Yandoh (or some other commentators ) have raised the issue of remuneration (I call it Kumasi reparation!!) to the owners and custodians of all the 175 km of land that has been cleared. The owners are afraid to raise the issue of remunerations because Papa Soja says I want your road. Lastly Afram Plains is one part of Eastern Region - and they probably needed that urgently (at that time) - I do not see any urgency in sending Soldiers to build a new road when there is “a parallel “ road already in existence. In many parts of the world, especially in Developed Countries, Soldiers are released in “emergencies” to deal with non-military issues such as hurricanes, floods and earthquakes and other natural disasters. Once again, there is no apparent emergency for Soldiers to be thrown into 3 regions to be building a 175 kn highway! Mr Yandoh, did make a lot of sense - in my humble opinion.

Ps: is this new 175 highway just to get votes? For the NDC? I thought there is going to be a change in the Presidential Candidate for the NDC? How about we wait for the coming candidate to come and propose such projects? …maybe, just maybe there is not going to be a change in the NDC presidential candidate for ‘2028…after all…

@K.Mensah,you have made my week if not month,the multi-tongued President made that claim because he knows majority of Ghanaians have not been to Afram Plains before,I hail from there and can say without fear of contradiction that it was a shoddy job done by the soldiers,currently there is no sign that the road has been tarred before,the soldiers were there on some sort of excursion mixed with adventure, they spent their time eating livestock belonging to the poor inhabitants with the randy ones amongst them sleeping with wives and girlfriends of some helpless men,on their way back to Accra one of the vehicles carrying some of them plunged into the valley between Atibie ànd Nkawkaw allegedly because of the atrocities some of them committed, I have no doubt that similar atrocities are being committed by those creating John Mahama's useless path for the so-called expressway,this is somebody who could not complete already started Eastern Corridor Road in five and a half years as President even after collecting a Ford Expedition vehicle as bribe from the contractor now says he is constructing a whole expressway,yoooo!!!!!
