When NPP won 2 elections under Dr Afari Gyan he was the best overseer of elections in the world but, when NP lost under Dr Afari Gyan, they called him with all the unprintable names.

The EC cannot be a power unto itself. There is no way possible, the EC should be allowed to be a power unto itself in a democracy in which it's mandate and function is at the behest of the citizenry.
When you have such a dangerous situation on your hands, where the EC's independence cannot be vouched for, and it assumes rather wrongly, such unbridled powers bothering on the absolute, you are headed for a crisis.
Likewise the alternative proposition, which is the IPAC exercising overriding authoritative function over the conduct and actions of the EC, would also not be a relevant, valid and acceptable norm as advanced by the Chair of the EC.
This state of affairs therefore requires a carefully worked out structure and balance that serves to engage and entrench the citizenry's belief and trust in the democratic process, as a credible and alternative vehicle for the advancement of their socio-economic development and growth objectives that further deepens the democratic culture, especially when, there is an increasing trend towards apathy and disengagement on the part of the citizenry. Perhaps, it is about time the very mandate of the EC is reviewed to assure relevancy in our democratic dispensation.
The bottom line though, there should never be a situation where, the EC becomes an absolute power unto itself. Such absolutism is a disincentive to proper democracy.
