  Flag bearer of a party to simply accept position by a winning party means the flag bearer never knew what he was in politics for. He could simply thank the president and then honourably decline the position.

Do you know the number of running mates who never went near to becoming vice president? All the failed running mates were at one time or the other hoping to become vice presidents.
