2 Toff Who's got the best flow, Who's got the nicest lyrics, Who's got the best beats? It's the new group in town called '2 Toff' or if you don't know them they are the new hiplife group on the block who have got the hiplife game on lock.
The hiplife rap duo comprising of Ogunskele (surname 'Oguns' plus kele) and Red Eye (favourite colour is red and had a group back in the states called red squad) make 2 Toff. Though they are the typical gangsters they flow to the understanding of the Ghanaian community.
Their 'Oblayoo' song has got the streets buzzing and is gradually earning a place is the music industry since they started playing it on radio stations.
Soon after coming together as 2 Toff through a friend called John in the States. Red Eye came to Ghana in 2003 to study what the Ghanaian artistes were doing and what they wanted before going back.
Red Eye who is a songwriter, singer, producer and sound engineer started playing beats by playing with drums, keyboards and church instruments. He then did some underground rap with his underground rappers in the states.
Red Eye has proved his skills by singing the chorus of Tinny's 'Heko Ejorko' and again rubbed shoulders with Obrafour, George, K.K. Fosu, Mr. Whyte and Adane Best on Hammer's new compilation.
Much talk about Red Eye, let's get to know about the real person behind Red Eye. Red Eye comes from a musical family and goes by the name Ureach Addy, born on 1st November. He attended Osu Salem Road JSS and went to the States to continue at Mount Venom High School. He was a track runner in high school and likes playing beats a lot.
Richard Oguns a.k.a. Ogunskele, the serious looking face boy started schooling at New Hope Primary and JSS, then continuing to Apam Secondary School. He left for the states after a year of attending Cape Coast University to Belview University. He is also into sporting areas of football and doing anything pertaining to music.
It's amazing how some of these artistes all started their rapping career by attending shows. They separately attended shows like fun world, Kiddafest, Miss SSS, Mr. Structure and many more.
2 Toff represents the toughest from the Ga and Twi language. "We are hot in Ga and Twi. Our album titled 'Oblayoo' will comprise of 10 songs on cassette and 15 songs on CD", Ogunskele added.
I had a chance of listening to two songs of the album which talks mostly about females, peace, love, feuds, negativity and domestic issues in our society. They featured two foot soldiers of the Last Two camp, Okra and Kwaw Kese, Bepo and Kofi Tsele.
"We know a lot of people have waited to hear from us for long and this is the time they should hear us and hear us better and all our continuing albums will be exclusive".
"Go for the album and no what the country boys who have been in another continent for years can come back and do", they both said.
All those copycats and those who steal beats should put a big stop to it and also stop the 'one way' beats in the system, Ogunskele fumed.
2 Toff want to help other upcoming artistes because they ain't perfect, so they have established a studio at their Kaneshie residence called Nature Works Entertainment.
They see hiplife going international on MTV and BET and want to thank God for their talents, and their producer, Samuel T. Doku and manager Tredicle for their support.
I see these young rappers want to gain platinum success in the Ghanaian music industry.
