2010 Christmas events record impressive attendance

Events organized this Christmas recorded impressive attendances contrary to fears that a good number of them may flunk.

Organizers were particularly worried they may not be able to attract large enough crowds to break even as there were too many events being organized over the period.

Major event house, CharterHouse for instance says its fears were unfounded after all. Events Director Theresa Ayoade tells Joy Business despite the 50 and 100 Ghana cedis charged for the “Night of 101 Laughs” comedy show, ticket sales were encouraging.

She said all their events were highly patronized and believes Ghanaians are beginning to appreciate the value of leisure.

On the same day and time and venue of the CharterHouse comedy show, Joy FM also put together an old school jam exclusively for executives at the foyer of the Accra International Conference Center.

Head of Sales Max Fugar says the attendance was great, attracting about a thousand of Accra’s finest elite.

He said the high attendance for all the events was indicative of the fact that there is a huge potential for entertainment.

He however added the high numbers do not always translate into massive profits for organizers.

The high patronage for most events in the capital, was not realized by traders. It appears the supermarkets and malls however enjoyed high sale volumes.

Public Relations Officer at Melcom, Richmond Kwarteng said the shop recorded its biggest crowds.

He said staff had to forfeit their holidays to serve the teeming shoppers who thronged the outlets of Melcom.
