Former Black Stars’ captain, Stephen Appiah, has received honours for his outstanding contributions to Ghanaian football and his community at second edition of the “Showbiz Honors”.
The ceremony which was attended by dignitaries from the world of showbiz, sports, politics and business had former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor as the special guest of honour.
The former president, who presented the main award to Stephen Appiah, described the retired footballer as a true example of good leadership, as he steered the National football team to two World Cup appearances.
According to Stacy Amoateng, Executive Director of Emklan and creator of Showbiz Honours, Stephen Appiah was selected for honours this year due to selfless contribution to Chorkor, the community in which he grew up. Stephen Appiah through his several charity works has among other things built a clinic for the community.
He has also contributed to the education of several children in the area as well as provided training and support for children who want to play football.
As part of his package he received plots of land for his personal use and for the building of his football training facility for aspiring young footballers.
