Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, a Ghanaian hiplife artiste, has said she never insulted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when he was the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
She said she only teased him about the events of the time.
During the 2016 political campaign, Mzbel, a known activist of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) said Mr Akufo-Addo was not presidential material.
After the elections, Mzbel complained of harassment by some supporters and sympathisers of the NPP, some of whom, she said, were her business partners.
Speaking on the Ayekoo Ayekoo programme on Accra100.5FM Monday, 22 July 2019, she said: “I don’t regret campaigning for the NDC at all.”
“I am disappointed with the people for treating me the way they did because everyone has his or her political party and, so, my views should have been respected,” she told show host Nana Romeo.
She added: “I never spoke against Nana Addo, I never insulted him, just that most of my words were to tease. I spoke on things that were happening around for people to laugh, so, I was very disappointed.”
She said the incident has made her realis how passionate Ghanaians were about politics and religion.
Mzbel further expressed optimism that the NDC will win the 2020 elections because the NPP has not fulfilled its promises.
“President Akufo-Addo has not done half the things Mahama did and, so, the signs are clear on the wall that the NDC will win the 220 elections,” she said.
