There is nothing exciting and motivating than enjoying unwavering support from people you’ve vowed to spend the rest of your life with.
The famous Akan adage, ‘de? ?reforo dua pa na y?pia no’, to wit, ‘he who climbs a good tree deserves a push’ can be said as one of the numerous reasons spouses throw their weights behind their partners. The support comes in different forms ranging from finance to intellect.
Well, the situation is not anything different when it comes to showbiz.
Abrantepa.com shares with you three Ghanaian celebrities whose spouses have openly contributed immensely towards their success.
1. Okyeame Kwame
Hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame is arguably one of the biggest brands in Ghana as far as showbiz is concerned. Aside the hit songs he has recorded, the rapper has clinched endorsement deals from reputable brands including MTN and Coca-Cola.
Okyeame Kwame’s wife, Annica Appau has been of tremendous help to his successful music career by ensuring that his unique brand fetches him money aside shows.
Annica has helped put proper structures in place at Okyeame Kwame’s One Mic Entertainment record label after it struggled as a set up with no proper structures. The two created a group company structure in 2012 with Firm Bridges Communications as the parent company.
Firm Bridges Communication is not only handling the PR of Okyeame Kwame but also focusing on advertising, events, talent management and marketing.
On their 7th anniversary, Okyeame Kwame penned down 7 reasons he loves his wife and two points summed up Annica’s amazing contribution to her husband’s enviable success.
“Fighter – Everybody who knows Anni well knows she is a fighter; she fights for her rights, fights for what is hers.. (Agyeiwaa the Eagle) protects her family with all her foresight. Life is war obviously, and when you have a fighter on your team, you are already a winner. She fights everything or everyone that fights against me. And it’s beautiful how she never fights me.
Sacrifices – Annica had always wanted to be a lawyer. After her first degree in law, she met me, put a hold on it, to pursue an MBA with a marketing option so that she could understand and support my music business. Her long essay was in finding alternative avenues to market music. All of this was to improve my work. 4 years ago, I asked her; ‘what do u wish for in life?’ and then she said ‘I wish to be that person who supported Okyeame Kwame to be all that he wished for’”.
2. Reggie Rockstone
The godfather of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone keeps soaring as an artiste and a businessman.
After receiving many accolades in Ghana’s music industry, the rapper set up Rockstone’s Officer, a pub located behind the Police Headquarters near the Ako-Adjei Interchange, Accra.
Rockstone’s Office which has served as a perfect hotspot for entertainment activities in the capital is managed by Zilla Limann, a doctor and wife of Reggie Rockstone.
The pub was adjudged the Best Bar and Best Nightclub at Accra Night Life Awards 2013.
After Reggie joined VIP which metamorphosed into VVIP, Zilla has been managing the music trio and has done so considerably well.
Zilla Limann, daughter of Ghana’s former president, Dr Hilla Limann has been commended by Rockstone for her ability to manage three men [Zeal, Prodigal and Rockstone himself] although he was earlier not in favor of her managing the music group thinking that it would be stressful.
VVIP has released hit songs including, ‘Selfie’, ‘Skolom’, ‘OMG’, ‘Dogo Yaro’ and ‘Alhaji’ and has won a number of awards including Best Choreography at the 2015 4Syte Music Video Awards.
3. Ohemaa Mercy
Ohemaa Mercy announced her presence in the music industry as a gospel artiste in November 2004 with her maiden album ‘Adamfo Papa’.
She won Discovery of the Year at the Gospel Music Awards 2004 following her exceptional performance that year.
Her second album, ‘Edin Jesus’ was released in 2007 which earned her three awards [Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year and Gospel Album of the Year] out of ten nominations at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. She also won a Grand Medal during the 2008 National Awards.
More than ten years in the game and Ohemaa Mercy can boast of six studio albums.
Her annual event, Tehillah Experience has been successful since its inception in 2014, Abrantepa.com can authoritatively say. All these could probably not have been possible without the unflinching support of her husband, Isaac Twum-Boafo.
Mr Twum-Boafo is the manager of Ohemaa Mercy and has composed some of her hit songs. Abrantepa.com spotted him at all the editions of Tehillah Experience coordinating affairs for the success of the event. He joins his wife for radio and television interviews and even goes through the synopsis before the interview commences.
Not a single day goes without a broadcast message from Mr Twum urging believers to wake up and join Ohemaa Mercy for morning devotion on Accra-based Neat FM.
Conclusion:
This is not to suggest that only three celebrities enjoy support from their respective spouses. Abrantepa.com would like to emphasize that the write-up was based on information available to us. There may be some spouses who have injected supports in diverse ways to compliment the efforts of their partners but not in the limelight
