Topline: As homebound audiences are streaming more than ever, they have flocked to the Netflix NFLX true-crime documentary Tiger King, propelling the miniseries to a massive debut of 34.3 million unique views in its first 10 days on the service, according to Nielsen.
The series, about private zookeeper Joe Exotic, drew a larger audience than the second season of the Netflix hit series Stranger Things.
It has become a social media sensation since launching March 20, 2020, generating the most Twitter interactions of any television program on streaming or broadcast, according to Nielsen.
That social buzz is what drove the series to success; before it made the rounds on Twitter and Instagram, Tiger King got a paltry 280,000 views in its first day, says Nielsen.
Its momentum has not slowed; the series has been the most-watched program on the service for the past 16 days, the longest streak since Netflix debuted the top-ten feature in February.
