The sexual potency of an 80 year old man charged for defiling a four year old girl is to be examined to prove his innocence of otherwise.

The man Adjei Narh was put before a court and charged with defilement but he said it was not possible for him to have done that because he cannot have erections.

This is against the back- drop that he admitted the crime when the little girl mentioned his name and promised to take care of the victim till she regained her health.

Mr Narh is reported to have given ?50,000 to the victim?s mother to take her to the hospital and also gave one bottle of local gin (akpeteshie) as a ?stamp? after he was confronted with the allegation.

He pleaded guilty on his first appearance and was remanded in prison but changed his plea when he appeared before the court again last Friday.

"My Lord it is true I cannot have erections and therefore cannot defile the child. The accusation is false," he told the court.

He was, however, remanded in prison custody again pending the outcome of the medical examination.

Presenting the facts, ASP T. K. Nyadu said that the victim was a four-year-old girl who lived with her mother at Santoa, a village near Obawale in the Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region.

He said that on January 16, 2006 at about 7.00 a.m. the mother of the victim left her at home and went to the farm.

ASP Nyadu said that the accused who stayed near the house took advantage of the absence of the victim?s mother and entered the house to play with the child.

He later laid the victim on a bench and sexually assaulted her.

The prosecutor said when the victim?s mother returned from the farm she saw blood coming from the daughter?s private parts and questioned her.

He said the victim told her that it was Adjei Narh who slept with her on the bench.

ASP Nyadu said that when the accused was confronted, he admitted to the crime and promised to take care of the victim.
