Srebuoso (Ash), July 18, GNA - A 28-year-old timber truck driver and his mate died on the spot when their truck bursts a front tyre and plunged into a valley at Srebuoso, near Nkawie in the Atwima District. Kwabena Okai, the driver and Kofi Tawiah, aged 19, the mate, were crushed to death by the logs while one person sustained serious injuries and is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi and one escaped unhurt.
Srebuoso (Ash), July 18, GNA - A 28-year-old timber truck driver and his mate died on the spot when their truck bursts a front tyre and plunged into a valley at Srebuoso, near Nkawie in the Atwima District. Kwabena Okai, the driver and Kofi Tawiah, aged 19, the mate, were crushed to death by the logs while one person sustained serious injuries and is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi and one escaped unhurt. Briefing the GNA, Police Inspector Ben Antwi of the Nkawie police, said the timber truck,which was carrying six logs to Kumasi burst a front tyre and the driver lost control of the vehicle. It veered off the road and plunged into the valley. The logs crushed the cab, in which four people including the driver and his mate were sitting. Inspector Antwi said one of the people managed to crawl out of the wreckage leaving the rest under the weight of the logs. It took the combined efforts Ghana National Fire Service personnel from Nkawie and the people of Srebuoso a long time to cut their way to the driver, his mate and the injured using a chainsaw. Meanwhile, the two bodies have been deposited at the KATH for autopsy.
