Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Big Borax has revealed he started using drugs before he shot to fame.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Thursday, Borax disclosed that he was introduced to marijuana by a friend while in secondary school.
“I was a day student. My parents knew who I was and they didn’t want me to go to boarding house. I had friends who had completed SHS long ago and they were in the neighborhood. My affiliation with them led to that,” he said.
According to the artiste, after a friend introduced him to it, he got addicted as it served as the only companion any time he was walking home from school.
“I remember when I close from school; I pick a bus from Kaneshie to Mamprobi. When I alight, I have to walk for 20 minutes to my house. It was a lonely road. A friend introduced me to it while going home. He bought some sticks, gave me one and we were all pulling it and having a chat. By the time we got to the house, we had finished 2-3 sticks. It became part and parcel of me. Any time I alighted from the bus, I had to get some sticks to entertain myself,” he said.
When host, KMJ asked if smoking had any influence on his career, Borax replied in the negative. He mentioned that he used to womanize because of how famous he was and that in a way affected his music career.
“I was partially into it. Not hard drugs…. It wasn’t serious. I really controlled myself. I know myself. I didn’t go beyond my limit so in a way, it didn’t influence me but for the fact that I was rolling with women, it actually caused me not focus on my career; the time that I needed to be in the studio or writing good songs, I was out there chilling,” he noted.
Born Nathaniel Larbie, Big Borax shot to fame with his hit single, ‘Ase?h?’.
He is also known for songs such as ‘Nana Yaa’ and ‘?y? Onoa’.
