A walk through Stonebwoy’s route to success

The year 2015 was an exciting one for some Ghanaian artistes and Ghanaian music in general. A lot of artistes soared both locally and internationally raising high the flag of Ghana.

One of the acts, who stood tall amongst his peers in 2015 is dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, known in real life as Livingstone Etse Satekla.

The artiste made a huge impact in the Ghanaian music industry last year.

Below are some of the highpoints of his music career last year:

Stonebwoy virtually had nominations in all the major awards event held last year and even went on to sweep most of the awards.

He won the topmost prize, ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards. He also won two other awards, ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year’ at the same event.

In that same year, Stonebwoy beat Sarkodie, AKA, Yemi Alade and WizKid to win the ‘Best International Act – Africa’ at the 2015 BET Awards.

Still on awards, Stonebwoy won six awards out of eight nominations at the 2015 BASS Awards. The awards included the Artiste of the Year at the event.

Again, at the 4Syte Music Video Awards, he won the ‘The Most Influential Artist of the Year’, “Best Directed Video’ and ‘Best Reggae/Dancehall’.

In July, he was at MTV MAMA’s in South Africa where he had a nomination in the Best New Act category. Even though he did not win, Stonebwoy gave an impressive performance on the night.

Away from all the awards, Stonebwoy performed at almost all major shows in 2015.

His ‘Go Higher’ tour saw him perform, alongside some of Ghana’s finest, at packed shows in Accra and Tamale.

In May 2015, he staged the ‘Ultimate Concert’ to thank his fans for supporting his music and his BHIM Nation group alive and strong.

In November, Stonebwoy performed at the ‘Mo Ibrahim’ concert with some top African music acts such as Angélique Kidjo, Youssou N’Dour and Sarkodie.

Outside Accra, he headlined the Akwambo Muzik Festival at Swedru in August where he thrilled fans to exciting performances.

In Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, he was one of A-list artistes at the ‘Celebrity Soccer Weekend’ where he played football and also performed to his fans. That event was followed by the ‘Tigo Unplugged’ concert in Kumasi.

One of the main highlights of Stonebwoy’s 2015 calendar was in November when he joined Jamaican legendary reggae group ‘Morgan Heritage’. He joined the group as one of the main artiste for their European tour dubbed “Strictly Root”.

The tour saw Stonebwoy perform at Tivolivredenburg Utrecht, Metropole Hall Lausanne, Switzerland and at De Vaartkapoen Bruxelles Brussel, Belgium

During the year, he worked Jamaican acts, Kranium and I Octane, Nigeria’s Patoranking and Burna Boy, and Ghanaian acts, R2Bees, Yaa Pono and a host of others.
