The African Muzik Magazine Awards AFRIMMA has unveiled the nominees list for the 3rd edition of the biggest African music awards in Diaspora.
Following the outstanding success of the 1st and 2nd editions, AFRIMMA 2014 and AFRIMMA 2015 respectively; anticipation and expectations have hit the roof for this year’s edition set to hold in Dallas on October 15th, 2016.
Ghana's High Life Artiste Of The Year, Bisa Kdei joins Sarkodie, R2Bees, SP Kofi Sarpong, Kofi Kinaata, Kaywa, Samini, Shatta Wale Efya, MzVee, Sonnie Badu, Mr. Eazi and Stonebwoy in this year's AFRIMMA awards.
Bisa Kdei has been nominated under three (3) categories; Best Male West Africa, AFRIMMA Video of The Year - Brother Brother and Song of The Year - Mansa.
Hold up, why is E.L getting missed in almost all Diaspora awards after his VGMA crown?
Most at times, when an artiste is given the ultimate award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, that artiste is supposed to be receiving international gigs, which include nominations outside Ghana. The most commonest among these nominations is the Black Entertainment Awards (BET).
The reflection of VGMA Artiste Of The Year on winner of the African Act at the BET has been so conspicuous and predictable by Ghanaians to the extent that, most people think and still believe, organizers of the VGMA award, Charter House and BET are in some kind-of-relationship.
The moment E.L won the ultimate award, we were all expecting him to be crowned at the BET too but Ghanaians were shocked to see his name not even part of the list. Something which brought a lot of wow in our minds.
Not ending there, organizers of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) released their list of nominees and there again, E.L wasn't part of the list. Then, we started thinking - something isn't well.
Few hours ago, AFRIMMA also released their list of nominees and again, E.L is not in the list. However, the High Life artiste, Bisa Kdei, whom citizens of the world were expecting to take the ultimate crown but was "cheated" is rather making entries into these international awards.
What does it tell? Does it mean the brand Bisa Kdei is more popular than E.L internationally? That we no for a fact since Brother Brother and Mansa conjured magic last year than any other music in Ghana.
Also, does it mean, these international bodies know the Ghanaian industry than our own people, who swerved the rightful Artiste Of The Year? This and so many unthinkable questions in mind. But, as comic actor, Kwadwo Nkansah Liwin will say, we can't think far on this.
