The ninth edition of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), the most popular awards ceremony in Africa, is scheduled to come off April 25, 2013 in Bayelsa, Nigeria.

Last year, the award ceremony was organized in Lagos instead of Bayelsa where it was held since its inception.

Reasons given for the move to Lagos were challenges in the areas of security, accommodation and airport logistics which were inadequate in Bayelsa State to hold an event of such magnitude at the time.

This year, the event is going back to Bayelsa and is expected to host some international names.

Nominations will be revealed in Malawi, Friday, March 15, 2013. The AMAA, since its inception in May 2005, has been held in Bayelsa State, except for the 2008 and 2012 editions which were held in Abuja and Lagos respectively.

The event is presented annually to recognize excellence in the African film industry, rewarding directors, actors, and writers.

The awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture.

Currently, the AMAA jury is going through various processes to see a success award this year.
