In a recent episode of GHOne TV’s Toast with host Maame Animwaa, media personality Abena Moet addressed the backlash she faced following her comments about Nana Ama McBrown’s departure from UTV.

The remarks, which were made during a segment on her show, sparked controversy and led to accusations of disrespect towards McBrown’s background and achievements.

Abena Moet recounted the context of her statements, explaining that her comments were part of her regular coverage of trending stories.

She noted that when McBrown joined UTV, her arrival was newsworthy, and similarly, her departure warranted coverage.

“It’s part of my job,” Moet stated, emphasizing that no one directed her to say anything specific.

Reflecting on her comments, Moet explained, “We are proud of her because we all know that she doesn’t have any formal education in journalism because she never went to media school, but she was able to host a show and did it so well.”

She elaborated that her remarks were meant to commend McBrown’s success despite not having formal training in journalism, a sentiment she believes was taken out of context.

Moet also addressed a segment where she humorously claimed that UTV “made” McBrown.

“That was the joke part,” she clarified, adding that the full ten-minute segment was filled with compliments for McBrown.

She expressed frustration over the clickbait nature of the headlines that emerged, which distorted her message and led to significant backlash, including her Instagram account being reported by McBrown’s fans.

Despite the controversy, Moet remains proud of McBrown’s achievements and insists that her comments were never meant as an insult.

She highlighted the importance of context in media coverage and urged listeners to consider the entirety of her statements.
