The Accra International Book Festival (AIBF) in collaboration with the Accra Writers’ Forum and N8tive Food and Beverage Bar has thrilled book lovers at its ‘Evening of Words, Music and Wine’ (WMW) held Friday.

The event, held at the N8tive Food and Beverage Bar located at Airport Residential Area, provided a casual setting for some avid readers and writers to trade literary news, critique works of colleagues and fellowship.

The WMW also afforded participants the opportunity to learn about some bloopers or reality violations commonly committed by some writers in their works.

Chairperson for the evening who also doubles as the Founding President of Women on The Move movement, Edith Ama Lawson noted the reality violation by some writers is “hugely responsible for the poor sales” their books are recording in the market.

“If any reader picks your book or essay and comes across such an illogical and defeatist narrative, she will stop reading it and discourage others from patronizing your work,” she told the audience.

Director of the Accra International Book Festival, Charles Y. Gray seized the opportunity to drum home the relevance of reading.

“When you read books, which is one of the requirements of being a member of the Accra Writers’ Forum, you won’t commit some of these basic bloopers being done by some writers,” he said.

Mr Gray explained readers across the world are becoming more sophisticated by the day, adding “literary mistakes pardoned in the past will not be countenanced today.”

“Let’s guard ourselves as writers and readers against some of these things that undermine our works,” he said.

The WMW ended with a musical performance by an upcoming rapper, Don Pablo as well as a reading by Mark Ekow Tawiah from his book, ‘See You At The Top.’
