Accra Sounds Opens In Accra

THE Minister of Information Nana Akomeah, has noted that the lack of competitive recording and production infrastructure, is one of the major constraints facing Ghana?s music industry.

He was speaking at the official opening of the premises of Accra Sounds & Audiovisual Ltd, a CD and cassette manufacturing plant at Kaneshie.Nana Akomeah said it was therefore welcome, that some new organisations intending to invest in the music industry, have taken up the task of reversing this trend.

He commended the Copyright Office and MUSIGA, for collaborating effectively to reduce the level of piracy in the music industry, and called on distributors and retailers of musical works to support the industry by distributing only genuine works.

Nana Akomeah cautioned musicians to be circumspect in their choice of lyrics, since music plays a major role in moulding and influencing society. ?It is rather unfortunate, that some of the songs played on our FM stations are profane, and are thus not meeting our cultural expectations.?

In an address, Mr Malik Premji, Managing Director of Accra Sounds & Audiovisual Ltd, said the company is set to provide excellent musical products, and to assemble quality raw materials to meet the increasing demand in Ghana.

Facilities at the new manufacturing plant include a mastering room, a duplicating room, loading and printing machines, a stretching machine, a Laboscreen, and an automatic machine for wrapping the CDs and cassettes.
