Akim Swedru (E/R), June 10, GNA- Michael Kwasi Boateng, 24, a phone repairer, who jumped from the second floor of the Akim Swedru Circuit Court, ostensibly to escape, was on Monday remanded again to reappear on June 16. Boateng was first remanded in police custody, when he pleaded not guilty to causing harm, resisting lawful arrest, threat of death and possessing firearms and ammunition without authority.

The accused person fell flat on the stomach, breaking his arms and also vomited blood. He was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital for treatment and was discharged the same day.

The prosecution had earlier told the court presided over by Mr Edward Bosompem Apenkwah that, the complainants are personnel from the Community Protection Unit and the Akim Swedru Police, while the accused was a phone repairer, based in Akim Oda. The Prosecution said on April 17, this year, the Personnel from the Community Protection Unit confronted Boateng for an offence he committed, but Boateng drew a knife and threatened the personnel, who later informed the police. On May 2, this year at about 0800 hours, the Akim Swedru Police had a tip off that Boateng had committed another offence and when the police also confronted him, he again resisted arrest and drew a knife and stabbed Lance Corporal Stephen Aboagye. The prosecution said during a scuffle, the police managed to overpower Boateng, retrieved the knife and sent him to the police station. The police later searched Boateng's room and retrieved a locally manufactured pistol and four catridges.
