Veteran actress Pascaline Edwards says she has been sidelined - a reason she's been missing from the movie scenes despite her unparalleled acting prowess.
In an interview with JoyNews' Doreen Avio, the actress said her insistence that she is paid what is due her, made some movie producers develop hatred for her and resolved not to engage her services any longer.
“People still owe me money from 2000. When you challenge them, they don’t like it so they don’t use you. They've blacklisted me but I am happy with it,” she said.
According to the 2002 Best Female Actress, colleagues failed to rally behind her back in the day when she demanded fair treatment. Interestingly, they rather thought she was roaring and being overly difficult because she had rusted.
She said: “Now you’re (the actors) singing my song, but me I won’t brush you off. I will support you so that even if I don’t get my money, we will correct it so that they don’t owe us again or take us for granted again."
Hope in Ghana Actors' Guild lost
Pascaline Edwards, like several actors, questioned the relevance of the Ghana Actors' Guild (GAG) when the association, according to her, has since she joined, failed to live up to expectations.
She mentioned that she became a member of the union in her 20s but is yet to see the impact. She could not fathom why the body would be reserved when unfair treatments are being meted out to members.
Drawing a comparison between GAG and the Film Producers' Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Edwards said FIPAG has been there for its members.
“You see they are a solid team. They produce the money, the script and everything then use us but we can also show them that without us, they can’t work. I don’t have confidence in the guild (but) if now the guild will get up and stand for us, we will make it," she said.
