Adaekese Traditional Beauty Pageant

AS part of activities marking the celebration of the Asanteman Adaekese,a traditional beauty pageant,the first of its kind in Ashanti would be staged at the Prempeh Assembly Hall this Friday.The pageant would select a traditional beauty queen who is beautiful in the African sense and intelligent in cultural and environmental cleanliness, through a contest.

The beauty pageant, which is scheduled to commence at 7pm is being organised under the auspices of the Adaekese Planning Committee and the Centre for National Culture.

The overall winner of the contest would become an Ambassador for Asanteman for the year 2004/2005 in promoting domestic tourism and environmental cleanliness as an important means of preventing many diseases.

The queen would receive various prizes including a return air ticket to Sweden to partake in the International tourism fair in 2005, US $1000 pocket money for personal enhancement, jewellery from Precious Minerals marketing Company( PMMC), wax prints from GTP and many more.
Qualification for the contest include a beautiful lady who is mature, intelligent, elegant, fluent in the Asante language, adept in Asante culture and dance, has the elements of a traditionally beautiful woman and must be literate.
According to the organisers, skin bleached women are automatically disqualified.The contest is being supported by Manhyia Palace, under the auspices of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, TOUGHA, Air Emirates, PMMC, GTP, Ghana Social Marketing Foundation (GSMF), Western Union and TV3
