Adam's Apples: The Hype Does Not Match The Work

A former journalist with Joy FM and Citi FM,Solomon Kwame Gyan has described Shirley Frimpong Manso’s latest project ‘Adam’s Apples’ as unworthy of the hype that characterized its premiere.

In a statement culled from a lengthy critique of the movie,on his Facebook page,Kwame expressed his disappointment about the ten chapter movie ‘Adam’s Apples’ likening it to ‘Kyeiwaa’,saying,’’I could still not fathom the concept behind Shirley’s movie in the make-shift cinema at the Miklin Hotel-Kumasi, after all the hype’’.

An unenthused Kwame Gyan, asks ‘’why does Shirley choose to tell the story of ‘Adam’s Apples’ in ten chapters’’?He again asks ‘’How different is ‘Adam’s Apples’ Chapters One through to Ten from the myriads of other Ghanaian and African movies, citing a case in point as Kyeiwaa,a movie that spans over eleven parts with a continuation of the same story’’? , adding that he was not surprised at all that ,reactions of patrons at the Miklin Hotel gave him the impression that their expectations were not met.

He stated in a follow-up interview that his greatest disappointment lied in the fact that he had to catch ten chapters to make a complete sense of the movie . ‘’I think the ‘messages’ Shirley said was embedded in each episode is not quite accurate. May be we should ‘take it like that’; after all she said it is a serial movie and we must catch it every month until February 2012. In the midst of all the fanfare, Sparrow Productions forgot to explain to its numerous admirers the new concept they were experimenting. ‘’

Inspite of his disappointment,Kwame Gyan was however quick to admit that the movie has quality costuming and pictures , and praised Sparrow Production for the consistent introduction of new faces,a move he describes as, having reduced the pain of seeing the clique of John Dumelo,Jackie Appiah,Nadia Buari,Yvonne Nelson etc again and again.
