Ghanaian socialite, Adu Safowah, has disclosed that she initially wanted to attempt the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon but later changed her mind.

According to her, some members of her management team advised her not to pursue the cook-a-thon attempt because she is not skilled in that field, but rather consider a speech-a-thon.

She indicated that after careful consideration, she realised that a speech-a-thon would be a better fit for her talents.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Manu, monitored by GhanaWeb, Safowah narrated how she was convinced to embark on the speech-a-thon attempt.

“I informed my boss about registering for cook-a-thon because I thought it was about preparing tea and all that. Then one of my bosses advised me to discard the idea and go for what suits my talent.

"He knew I was talkative, and I could do that better. So that is how I changed my mind to register for the longest talking marathon [speech-a-thon],” she said.

About Adu Safowah’s speech-a-thon attempt

The speech-a-thon attempt, which began at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on February 9, 2024, ended on February 15, 2024, at 4:05 am after 130 hours of speeches.

Taking to her Instagram page to share the good news, Adu Safowaa described the GWR attempt as a "Rebirth" and expressed her gratitude to God, her fans, and colleagues for supporting her attempt over the past six days.

The attempt, which lasted for five days and ten hours, saw Adu Safowah deliver speeches ranging from her personal life to topical issues, mainly in English and Twi.

Several celebrities, including Nana Ama McBrown and Akumaa Mama Zimbi, showed up to offer their support to Adu Safowah.

Adu Safowah beat the current record of 90 hours and two minutes, achieved by Ananta Ram KC from Nepal in Kathmandu from August 27 to 31, 2018.

Adu Safowah will join the ranks of notable Ghanaians who have previously participated in Guinness World Records attempts, including Afua Asantewaa (sing-a-thon), Chef Failatu Abdul Razak (cook-a-thon), Ace-Liam Nana Sam (youngest artiste), and Dela Gomey (lipstick applications in 30 seconds).

The outcome of her speech-a-thon attempt is yet to be known by the Public.
