Africa Live is a non-profit arts and community enhancement organisation, based in Ghana. It is an initiative of Rocky Dawuni, and his impetus was the awareness that the musicians and the music that formed the basis of the early music industry in West Africa in which Ghana played a vital role, have been left to languish and be forgotten.
The music which should have been considered a national treasure, is largely unrecognisable by the youth, and unavailable to all.
The purpose of Africa Live, therefore, is to revive the Ghanaian music scene, and to re-establish its vibrant leadership role in the African music arena.
It is widely acknowledged that music boosts tourism thus reviving the Ghanaian music scene, would have a tremendous spill-over effect for the industry.
With this, the aesthetic Ghanaian culture and its people would be marketed near and far through music, while the young and new talents, are exposed to earlier inspiring artistes. Africa Live, has the following broad objectives:
1) To restore, preserve and reinvigorate the live music scene in Ghana by providing artistes logistics as well as professional production assistance.
2) To promote music education and appreciation in Ghanaian schools.
3) Continue to advance and develop the hugely successful 2001 Independence Splash into an annual Music Festival to be held on every Ghanaian Independence Day, on 6th of March in Accra.
4) To develop the ?Independence Splash? into a premier live music event in Africa with musicians from all over the world.
5) To explore and develop traditional West African music into a resource for community development, advancement and export.
6) To engender music production and consumption as a means of socio-economic growth in Ghana.
Africa Live through fundraising drives, fund and achieve its objectives.
Our first major fund-raising event, is the Independence Splash concert which comes off at the International Conference Centre on March 3.
We are counting on your support to save hi-life music and raise the standard of live music in Ghana.
