The African Showboyz Band has over the past several years been creating waves with their unique northern Ghanaian drums and stringed instruments alongside vibrant rhythms in the United States, Australia, Europe and several African countries.
Undeniably, they have performed with a number of internationally-acclaimed stars, including Stevie Wonder, Karl Denson, Babatunde Oluntunji, late Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti, Steel Pulse, Arrested Development, Mickey Hart Band, Burning Spear and most recently in Australia with Beninese star Angelique Kidjo.
The group has largely improved their repertoire by creating a new synthesis through the fusion of indigenous traditional rhythms with western and other beats that appear magical while forcefully revealing the power and capabilities of indigenous African instruments.
African Showboyz Band has performed at various festivals in the United States like the Joshua Tree Festival, Sierra Nevada Music Festival, Lotus Festival, Floyd Fest, Earthdance, Common Wealth Games 2006 in Australia, Oregon Country Fair Festival, Chicago World Music Festival, All Good Festival, Hornby and Kaslo Festival in Canada and many others.
The group which has also toured Canada Mexico, France, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand and others was featured in the documentary ‘1 Giant Leap’. With six albums to its credit, the band has thrilled fans at the Alliance Francaise, Goethe-Institut, Centre for National Culture, National Theatre and many venues in Accra.
Led by Napoleon Sabbah, African Showboyz has equally performed before enthusiastic audiences in Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroun, Niger, Senegal, Burkina Fasso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Libya and Ivory Coast, while collaborating with Alpha Blondy, Freddie Meiwey, Ras Kimono, Eek A Mouse, and Burning Spear.
