British fashion designer of Ghanaian descent, Ozwald Boateng has urged the youth and musicians to use social media to make a difference both in Ghana and abroad.
According to him, with the use of social media the youth can communicate who they are, without necessarily leaving the country as he describes Ghana as the new frontier.
“…Ghana has a lot of great opportunities, the year of return was fantastic, and we had a lot of people travelling into Ghana and a lot of people realizing that Africa is the new frontier...If I was a young man today using social media, there is alot of opportunities to communicate who you are and so if you look at the success Afrobeats which is born out of the street of Africa it has nothing to do with travelling on the plain to the Europe or US. So my advice is to look at where you are, look at social media and more importantly, now more than ever being Africa actually has a value.
He told GhanaWeb's Nimatu Yakubu in an exclusive interview at the AGA-Africa Conference dubbed "Tackling the reality of Transnational crimes in Africa" held today March 4, 2020, in Accra.
The international fashion designer who is known for his trademark twist on classic British tailoring and bespoke style reiterated that though Afrobeat originated from Ghana, it has been recognized globally.
“Musically it has already been proven. Afrobeats is now played in Malaysia, Philips, China, Russia, I mean globally and it’s played everywhere. So the kids should take confidence from the knowledge from what they create here on the ground and influence the world."
