Ghanaian singer Joel Ofori Bonsu, popularly known as OliveTheBoy, has explained why many Ghanaians mistake him for a Nigerian.

In an interview with Okay FM on November 5, 2024, he said that Nigerians have popularized the Afrobeats sound to the extent that people think anyone doing Afrobeat is Nigerian.

"People are actually accepting the kind of person I am, and it's Afrobeat," he said. "I feel like the reason why most people think that when you do a certain rhythm, you're an Afrobeat artist is because Nigerians have established it to a point where when you hear a sound, you will feel like it's coming from Nigeria."

Regarding the use of Pidgin English in songs, Abeiku Santana, host of the show, pointed out that Ghanaian Pidgin doesn't sound like Nigerian Pidgin.

The fast-rising singer explained, "When you speak your own Pidgin, you will feel like you're speaking Nigerian Pidgin."
