Akesse Brempong, on Saturday the 30th of March added to his pile of awards, the freshest amongst them; Reggae/ Dancehall Song of the Year Award at the Africa Gospel Awards Festival 2019 (AGAFEST).

The Gospel Reggae Kingpin beat the likes of Sonnie Badu’s ‘Rejoice’, Kenyan artiste, Jabidii’s ‘Shoot Satan’ and ‘Vimbada’, Nigerian act, Righteousman’s ‘Who is like Jesus’, Nat Abbey’s ‘Thanks’ and (Kenya) Timeless Noel’s ‘Odi Dance’, to grab the award with his ‘No Weed’ song.

Although he was faced with resilient forces in the Reggae genre across the African continent who had equally good songs, his controversial ‘No Weed’ song, released in support of the drug/tramadol abuse campaign in 2018 endorsed it’s effectiveness and purpose with the win.

In delivering his acceptance speech, Akesse Brempong dedicated the award to Rev. Michael Griffiths- the original writer of the song.

This just might be a prelude to the impending VGMA Gospel Artiste of the Year category in which he has been nominated.
