It was all excitement on Saturday evening, March 27 when the delightful and energetic songstress, Akosua Agyepong stormed the Accra International Conference center with family and friends to mark her 20 years of being active in the music industry. Akosua, burst onto the music scene in 1990 with her fresh and didactic lyrics complemented by her unique and groundbreaking dance moves particularly for a female artist. Soon, she scored a string of hits and became an inspiration for many young women and won the admiration of many men as well.View Gallery

Akosua’s beauty and grace has never diminished and this was evident when she came out to celebrate two decades in the industry looking as good and as young as a teenager. As one of the few artists who have successfully crossed over from secular music to gospel music, the Akosua@20 concert pulled some of the greatest performers from both genres to the enjoyment of the crowd that attended the show.

With amazing performances from supporting acts such as DSP Kofi Sarpong, Stephanie Benson (older sister of Akosua), Becca and King David, there was very little that the audience could ask for. But when the ‘old greats’ came on stage, there was a complete rapture of joy throughout the auditorium as the old and young got up to sing and dance along through the performances. The vintage folks that performed their evergreen hits on the night include Bessa Simons, Tagoe Sisters, Asabea Cropper and Kente Man, A.B. Crenstil, Gyadu Blay Ambolley, Amaah Pino, Rex Omar and others.

Akosua Agyepong made her first appearance of the night dressed in a white costume to perform some of her old and new gospel songs, highlighting the latter years of her music career. She later made her second appearance dressed in her favourite yellow colour of yesteryears to perform to a streak of her old hits including the crowd favourite, ‘Frema’. She was followed by Rex Omar, who teased the crowd with his ever-growing distinct music sound to pave way for the climax of the show, where he was going to team up with Akosua to perform some of their songs as the trio, Nakorex. However the finale didn’t happen as a power cut abruptly ended the show.

A double CD compilation album of Akosua Agyepong’s major hit songs as well as some new materials was also released on the night. The first copy of the CD was auctioned at 2,000 GhC.
